The Prophets - Beth-El's Stained Glass Windows

Upper Balcony on the West Side.

The message of the prophet, Habakkuk contains a series of predictions about the erring nations. In the panel, a fish caught in the net symbolizes Israel. A wolf, leopard and a hovering eagle represent Nations. These symbols refer to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans in 586 B.C.E.

However, the prophet who observes this scene from his watchtower receives the message from God: 'The righteous shall live by his faith." The word, "faith" or "emunah" is the theme of the window.

Habakkuk predicted that in the future, "the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea." His basic theological conception is expressed in the verse:

"The Lord is in His Holy Temple, let all the earth keep silence before Him."
