Cantor and Musical Director

Cantor Edward Cohen is a native of Buffalo, New York . He received a B.A. in Music from the State University of New York at Buffalo and received his Cantor's Diploma from the Cantor's Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary.

Prior to joining Temple Beth-El, Cantor Cohen was cantor at Shaare Zedek in New York City. He served as Associate Coordinator for the Voice for Our Time Conference in New York City. In that position he coordinated an international symposium on the music of Salomon Sulzer and the religious milieu of Jewish Vienna in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Cantor Cohen has served at the Jewish Home and Hospital of New York City and Camp Ramah in Wingdale, New York. He served as High Holy Day Cantor at Temple Beth-El, Plainfield, New Jersey; B'nai Sholom Congregation, Blountville, Tennessee; B'nai Israel Congregation, Millburn, New Jersey; and B'nai Israel Congregation, Olean, New York .

Cantor Cohen joined Temple Beth-El in Richmond, Virginia as Cantor and Musical Director in September of 1992.
