Director
of Congregational Learning and Music Temple Beth-El Richmond, VA Hours: Full time Supervisor: President of Temple Beth-El (In collaboration with appropriate
Temple committees and the Rabbi) Qualifications: ·
Masters of Jewish
Education or equivalent; ordination as Rabbi or Cantor ·
Prior and proven
ability to work with children and teens in a structured, educational setting ·
Proven
supervisory, organizational and administrative skills to include
technology ·
Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills ·
Demonstrated
ability to lead a religious school program including curriculum development,
staff recruitment, development and supervision ·
Proven ability to
work as part of a professional team ·
Strong skills in
leading Congregational worship, including but not limited to chanting Torah and
Haftarah ·
Expertise in
sacred/traditional and modern music/nusach to enhance
spirituality and increase the “ruach factor” of services ·
Preferred ability
to read music and/or play at least one musical instrument ·
Preferred ability
to form and direct a choir Position
Descriptions EDUCATION DUTIES ·
Consult with
Professional staff and lay leadership and
develop, implement and coordinate the Congregation’s Educational Programming
for all age groups ·
Incorporate
musical instruction into Congregational Educational Programming at all levels
in the religious school as well as through adult and family learning
opportunities ·
Plan and develop
curriculum and administer the Congregation’s Religious School and High School for
students in grades K-7 and grades 8-10 ·
Work with the
Rabbi to develop and implement Temple Beth-El’s Confirmation Program ·
Engage,
supervise and evaluate school staff in
concert with appropriate Temple committees ·
Work with the
Rabbi and lay leadership to develop, coordinate, and supervise youth and
alternative services for Shabbat and holidays ·
Promote informal
Jewish education and social interaction through enhancement of youth groups ·
Consult with Temple
Sisterhood and Men’s Club leaders as needed to support and enhance their
respective programs, as well as to ensure that such programs complement and
integrate with the overall programming efforts of the Temple ·
Establish and
manage budgets for the areas of responsibility in concert with appropriate Temple
staff and committees MUSIC DUTIES ·
Serve as a Shaliach Tzibor for the
Congregation ·
Organize coverage
of and/or be responsible for all regular Torah/Haftarah
reading ·
Teach and inspire
others to learn to lead worship services and to chant Torah/Haftarah
on a regular basis ·
Coordinate the
training and preparation of Temple youth for their B’nai Mitzvah ·
Incorporate
musical components of the educational program into congregational Shabbat and
holiday liturgy PASTORAL AND PULPIT DUTIES ·
Assist with pastoral
and ritual duties as requested, including but not limited to life cycle events ·
Prepare and lead
services during absences of the Rabbi
