Is voting...Jewish? Join TBE's Student Rabbi-in-Residence Talia Kaplan for a non-partisan discussion about what Jewish texts can teach us about civic engagement leading up to the 2020 election. No prior knowledge required, and diverse perspectives are welcome!

Talia Kaplan is an organizer, educator, and candidate for rabbinic ordination with a master’s degree in Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Passionate about building spiritually rooted communities capable of effecting social change, she comes to New York from Washington, D.C., where she did interfaith immigration advocacy and facilitated experiential education programming for the Religious Action Center. She has also worked on issues of mass incarceration and human trafficking with T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights and Juvenile Law Center. Talia served as the 2020 Program Director for JustCity, designing and facilitating an online pluralistic summer program for teenagers across the country. She is currently the Rabbinic Intern at Brown RISD Hillel.

Talia has published poetry and prose on a number of topics, including Israel education and collective memory, gender in Jewish ritual, and the intersection of kashrut and interpersonal relationships. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with high honors from Wesleyan University, where she studied government, Jewish studies, and Middle Eastern studies. As part of her education, Talia spent a semester at the University of Haifa, where she interned with the Leo Baeck Center, and a summer at Pardes.
