7:00 PM - 9:00 PMUrban Farmhouse 3015 Norfolk Street, Scott's Addition

Session 3 speakers: Linda Tissiere, CEO of the YWCA (advocate for survivors of sexual assault) and Claire Gastanaga, Executive Director of the ACLU (advocate for civil liberties/rights)

The “MeToo” campaign took the country by storm. Tens of thousands of women revealed that they had been sexually harassed or assaulted. People started to hear them, and more importantly, believe them. A new awareness gripped the country – that this kind of behavior is everywhere – in our schools, businesses, government, and entertainment industry.

Why are we just now waking up to the fact that sexual harassment and assault has been a norm in our culture for centuries? How did we get here? Why aren’t women and children safe in our society? What can we do about it now? How do we prevent sexual assault and harassment? Is our legal system to blame, or our culture of rape, or both? What do men and women fear most?

Claire and Linda will explore all of these topics in a lively conversation about our society, the law, and what each of us can do to combat a pervasive issue that impacts us all.
