Suddenly, A Knock on the Door by Etgar Keret
This collection of highly inventive and often fantastical short stories captures the inner whims of Israeli society and everyday life. Throughout, Keret captures what Steve Almond, writing for The New York Times, called “the chaotic inner life” of Israelis — less the public dilemmas of a nation and more the private existential questions that Israelis face today. The Independent said: "Keret's stories explore the shaded space between joke and fable, between human understanding and the impossibilities of the world" and the Guardian described them as "highly patterned, highly charged, refracted reflections on the chaos and randomness of everyday existence."
Etgar Keret, praised as a “genius” by The New York Times, is one of Israel’s most accomplished authors. Born in 1967, he has lived for many years in Ramat Gan. His wisdom and wit shows in his accessible writing that draws in every reader.
