For new and returning participants

The goal of the Havurah Project, 2nd year is to continue bringing our Beth-El community closer by nurturing newer and deeper relationships through Shabbat meals. Open to folks of every age, participating congregants will again be assigned to small groups called “Havurot”.  We will form these small groups to connect people who don’t know each other (well), or who because of demographics or geography, wouldn’t normally interact.

Every month, one or two members of each Havurah will host the others of their Havurah for a potluck Shabbat dinner. All that’s required is a desire to form meaningful relationships with other congregants and a commitment to participate in a monthly Shabbat dinner.  HAVURAH FAQ  More questions?  Contact Debbie Falik at 804-677-9642 or

The Havurah Project was made possible in part through an IMPACT GRANT from the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.

Upcoming 2017-18 dates for the Havurah Project

To register for a Havurah, please complete this questionnaire by September 1, 2017.

(Returning participants must complete this as well.)

One of our goals for The Havurah Project is to connect people with others they may not yet know.  However, if you would like one or two specific people to be part of your Havurah, please list your request below.  We may not be able to accommodate all requests, but will do our best!

The Havurah Project was 100% grant-funded in the initial year from the Richmond Jewish Foundation (this year the grant is less), and the eventual goal is a self-sustaining program.

We have thoughtfully budgeted for 2017-18, taking into account last year’s experiences and partial grant funding received.  Havurah expenses include the opening and closing community dinners, Shabbat dinners with the Knopfs, and Shabbat kits.  We ask each participating adult to donate at least $18 (tax deductible) to help us assure another successful year!
