Men's Club Status Update

01/25/2021 05:26:32 PM

Jan25

Good Evening,

I am writing to provide a status update on the Men's Club.  The Men's Club Board met earlier this month to discuss the approach we would like to take for the upcoming year.  As we begin each fiscal year, we normally hold this meeting to discuss planned activities and to set dues.

Given the ongoing pandemic and the unspecified timing for having the vaccine available (and administered) to everyone who wants it, we decided not to plan any events.  When then had a vigorous discussion about whether to bill dues.

For those who are open to paying dues (remaining at $38) in this unique environment, we have set up the ShulCloud link below:

https://www.bethelrichmond.org/form/mc2021

We will hold these funds in reserve to support the religious school and future TBE programs.  To save costs, we are not going to send dues notices through the mail this year.

For anyone who would prefer to not pay dues while we are on pause, we ask that you consider redirecting your dues payment to the Grove Avenue Renovation Fund:

https://www.bethelrichmond.org/grovereno

During the period that Men's Club is on pause, our membership asks that you keep us in mind for participating in community events.  Members remain interested in supporting activities such as the recent blood drive, where over 20 members of the TBE community came together to donate blood at a critical time - a true mitzvah!

Kind regards and be well,

David

Community Blood Drive at Parham Road Campus: Sun., Dec. 13, 2 PM - 6 PM

10/29/2020 03:33:43 PM

Oct29

Good Afternoon,

The Men's Club, in conjunction with the Virginia Red Cross, is sponsoring a community Blood Drive Event on Sunday, December 13 from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Parham Road Religious School Campus.

If you would like to sign up to donate blood, please reach out to Don Light at adlight@aol.com .

We are also looking for 3 - 4 volunteers to represent TBE for one hour blocks during the event.  You do not need to donate blood to volunteer for one of these blocks.  If you are interested in volunteering, please also reach out to Don.

These times have put an extra strain on local blood supplies, which always come under additional pressure during the holiday season.  All TBE and Red Cross mitigation and social distancing standards will be in effect during the event.

Thank you for considering this important Mitzvah.

Be safe and well,

David Lowenstein and Don Light

October 18 - Sukkah Disassembly

10/08/2020 05:56:47 PM

Oct8

Good Evening,

What goes up (at least as far as Sukkahs are concerned) must come down.

While we still have time to enjoy TBE's Sukkah this year, we are planning to take it down and put it back in storage on Sunday, October 18 at 9 AM. We are looking for volunteers from the TBE community to help.  (Thank you to all who helped to put it up!)

We are not going to use a Sign Up Genius for take down, which is generally much faster than set up.  We will follow all social distance protocols and ask that all participants wear a mask.

If you are able to help, please join us at the Grove Avenue Parking lot at 9 AM on October 18. Though not required to participate, please feel free to bring any tools you have at home to help.  (We primarily use wrenches and screwdrivers.)

Thank you!  Stay safe and be well.

Important Message from the MC President

01/31/2020 02:53:25 PM

Jan31

Shabbat Shalom Men’s Club,

I hope this reaches you all well. It is with a heavy heart and sadness that I write to inform you that I am resigning my post as President of the Temple Beth-El Men’s Club. My family and I have decided to leave Temple Beth-El after many months of deep discussion and consultation with some of our closest friends/members who we respect greatly. This decision to leave Temple Beth-El was not an easy one but is what’s best for our family at this time and place in our lives.

We enjoyed becoming active members in the congregation upon our arrival to Beth-El five years ago. It has always been important for our family to get involved in our religious community and not sit on the sidelines. It was a pleasure to serve in so many capacities, Casino Night Fundraising Organizers, Hebrew School Committee Members, Security Committee Members, TBE Board of Directors or helping to organize holiday/special events for the TBE community. It has been our delight to give back and make a positive mark on Temple Beth-El.

I am especially proud of the work we have done together with the Men’s Club. I have thoroughly enjoyed being your President over these last three years and leading this organization forward. When I made the decision to become more involved, we decided as a group that it was important to better shape the mission of the Men’s Club for the future/current times in an effort to attract new members/leaders and better appeal to the current membership. With that mission in hand, we decided to focus on three specific pillars to move this organization forward: Sports, Social/Jewish Networking, & Community Service/Religious School. Our hope was this new format would be more engaging to all and offers something for everyone, whether you got involved in sports because that was your thing, or you loved to network with other Jewish Men in the community. We created an organization that (I believe) gives its members the freedom to choose what they love to do and at the same time could bring us all together.

I hope I played a small part in moving this organization forward, making a difference and shaping its future. I have and will always believe that the Men’s Club plays a vital role in the community and its existence is important to a successful and thriving Temple Beth-El. To that extent, I would challenge each and every one of you to find your passion at Temple Beth-El and not “Sit on the sidelines”. It’s more important than ever if you believe in all of the great things the Men’s Club has been a part of and done for Beth-El over its 85 year history that you too get involved in your own way to make a difference. Its my hope the Men's Club legacy and all the good this organization does for Beth-El will continue for many more years to come.

As this organization moves forward, I firmly believe in the current leadership and elder/younger members to lead and shape this organization. I will be working with David Lowenstein (Men’s Club Vice President) and other members to transition my responsibilities over the coming days.

Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for having the trust in me to lead this organization over the last few years. It has truly been my honor to serve. I have had the pleasure of getting to know many of you and building some close relationships which I look forward on maintaining. I wish the Men’s Club and its members all the best!

Sincerely yours,

David Isenberg
