The Talmud teaches that 30 days before Passover, we should start learning about the festival and its meaning. In that spirit, I offer a brief message each day leading up to Passover, drawn from the wisdom of the holiday and the Exodus story. Feel free to share/forward. -Rabbi Knopf
Day 19: Be a Man When young Moses left Pharaoh’s palace for the first time, he saw an Egyptian viciously beating an Israelite slave. No one around could be bothered to step in to stop the injustice. Instinctively, Moses intervened, striking down the Egyptian. So many of us are passive bystanders to injustice and suffering. The Passover story echoes the Talmud’s imperative: in a place where no one else is fulfilling their human obligations, strive to be a human being.
