Day 30: Southern Hospitality
One of the most repeated phrases in the Torah is “for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” According to my rabbi and teacher, Bradley Shavit Artson, one of Passover’s lessons is to recall “what it is like to feel unwanted or unnoticed.” From this memory, our task becomes ensuring “that no stranger ever feels unwelcome in any Jewish gathering.” Be kind, open, and gregarious to those who summon the courage to enter into an unfamiliar room. You would want the same, and so does God.
